Welcome to The Oasis, a collection of poetry tied to a dubious little dive bar in the midwest. Pull up a barstool and share a drink (poem) with me every Friday, and get to know the patrons via this newsletter, The Weekly Sip. You’ll find song recommendations, drink recipes, and poems - all pairing together less like a fine with Brie and more like a cheap shot of bourbon with stale peanuts. Cheers!
Song Pairing:
“Running With the Devil” - Van Halen
Nothing against tequila lovers or aficionados, but I’m an admirer from afar at best. Excess is typically a dangerous foe, and this week the patrons of The Oasis greet their liquid adversaries head on.
Drink recommendation: Tequila Sundown
It’s possible it’s just me, but I feel like the most frequently raised alcohol in any dive bar is tequila - agree? Whether it’s the norm or not, there’s no denying a shot of good tequila or a well made cocktail can easily lead to one (or two) too many. Feel free to adjust your tequila sundown to taste:
2 oz. Tequila
1 oz. pomegranate juice
3 oz. orange juice
Ice & garnish with an orange slice
Tommy’s Toast
Raise your glasses,
raise ‘em high!
For love, for luck,
for time gone by!
Raise your glasses,
raise ‘em high!
Toss one back,
and feel alive!
Porcelain
Knock
Knock
on the door
"One minute more"
time to collect
Flush
Flush
down the drain
all the pain
get it out
Splash
Splash
feel the cold
this gets old
time to leave
Turn
Push
out the door
to the floor
"One more please!"
Hahaha....I'm feeling a bit tipsy!
I love the pairing of the two poems. It creates a very clear image for me of a very long and rollercoaster of a night without needing to say too much. You’re so great!
