Welcome to The Oasis is a love letter to my hometown. An exploration and amalgamation of my experiences, both real and imagined. A landscape where fictional characters come to life and allow me to follow them through the corners of a small midwestern town in the 90s - all somehow connected to the local dive bar, The Oasis. Consider me, the poet, a silent observer. An unsuspecting bar fly recording moments of debauchery and innocence.

Fictional, yet inspired by an old bar and curiosities that reach back three decades, I invite you to pull up a barstool and order a drink.

What to expect:

My weekly Substack emails will feature poems from my collection, Welcome to The Oasis. Each week the poems will be paired with drink and song recommendations, some tunes from the 90s but mostly general inspirations for the poetry and its characters. The drinks and songs are meant to pair well with the poems, less like a fine wine with Brie and more like a cheap shot of bourbon with stale peanuts.

Why now?

I’ve been working on this collection of poems, and the subsequent novel based on the same mini stories, for more than fifteen years. I stumbled upon Substack and felt the immediate need to start sharing the poetry side while I continue to work on the book.

I invite you to slip into The Oasis every week, where patrons reveal the complexity of an aged scotch, the saccharine qualities of a Long Island, and can sting like whiskey.
